You love your child so much and only want what is best for her (or him) so of course you give vegetables with dinner, encourage the eating of fruit maybe as a dessert or as a snack, yet your child sees something green on her plate and she won't touch it. It's something every parent dreads as it is drummed into us to try and eat at least 5 fruit or vegetables every day for health purposes.
A tip is not to overreact if your child eats the meat and potatoes but leaves the vegetables untouched. Also don't try to bribe your child with 'treats' such as sweets or chocolate as a reward for eating their food. A reward would indicate that the vegetable is indeed unpleasant, so much so that a reward has needed to be offered if it could be eaten.
Often you will find that your son or daughter will follow your lead. If it appears you enjoy fruit and vegetables they will get the impression that this is food to be enjoyed and they may be missing out on something good, so set the example and it is quite probable your child will follow.
Research has shown that school age children will eat new foods eventually. One way to help your child may be to introduce your child to similar foods. For example if your child enjoys peaches maybe try to introduce a new taste such as a mango. If they like tomato sauce, in England a hot favourite with everything, then try fresh tomato sauces.
Get a juicer because children will often drink vegetables masked with fruit juices, so the overall taste is sweet and the juice looks colourful and tastes delicious. An example of this would be 3 apples, 1 celery, a handful of fresh spinach leaves, fresh parsley, fresh beetroot. It's a delicious sweet nutritious juice, you have just given your child her '5 a day' and you may be surprised to find that she has actually enjoyed it.
