Parental Controls For the Internet - 3 Shocking Statistics You Probably Didn't Know

Parental controls for the internet weren't needed when we were kids. Remember back then - running around outside playing all day and into the night well after dark? We used to play kick the can and ghost in the graveyard.

And we would sneak out and do dumb things after our parents went to sleep.

Unfortunately times have changed, and the internet has brought about a lot of that change. No longer do kids have to actually talk face to face with other people - they can do it all through their computer and their keyboard.

This has also brought a new face to child predators and pedophiles. No longer do they have to look for their prey on the streets or on the playgrounds. All they have to do now is go into a chat room and pretend to be a kid.

The internet has provided these sick-minded individuals with the perfect cover-up. And, sadly, many kids fall for their antics each and every day.

I recently did some research in setting up parental controls for the internet in my home. I came across these 3 shocking statistics you probably didn't know:

  1. 75% of children are willing to share personal information online about themselves and their family in exchange for goods and services.
  2. Only approximately 25% of children who encountered a sexual approach or solicitation told a parent or adult.
  3. 77% of the targets for online predators were age 14 or older. Another 22% were users ages 10 to 13.

This is enough to make you sick, but the sad reality is that this is the world we live in. The scary thing is that someone could be preying on your child online in your home without you even knowing it!

This is why my wife and I have enforced some pretty strict parental controls for the internet in our home because we do not want any of our kids becoming the next victim of an online predator.

Don't let your child become another victim of an online sexual predators either. Get parental controls for the internet to keep them safe at http://www.squidoo.com/Parental-Controls-For-The-Internet
