Into days rush rush world, it's no wonder our children have a hard time focusing. Whether it be school work, sports or other activities, children are bombarded with distractions. Here are 5 tips to help your child focus in this busy world we live in;

1. Establish a quiet place. Set up a room or area in your home that is free of distractions for reading, drawing or any other activities that require focus. They will begin to know that when they enter this area, they can focus on the subject at hand.

2. Allow them to play video games. Yes, play computer games with them that have story lines or missions than continue throughout the game.

3. Teach them to take turns. Play various board games or even tell stories. Encourage all family members to pay attention while others are talking or when it's not their turn.

4. Take silent listening walks. Walk around the house or even the neighborhood pointing in the direction of sounds. This will help them strengthen their sense of sight and sound while focusing.

5. Identify activities that allows your child to follow directions. Pick games that change pace from fast to slow. This will give them practice at pacing themselves.

These simple tips along with being aware of your child's strengths and weaknesses will help your child develop better focusing skills. Not only will these encourage your child, but they will also give you a chance to grow closer to your child and help them during difficult situations in their lives. Being closer to your child will create a bond that will last long past their childhood.
